A free-spin or no-deposit promotion can still lead to spending money and gambling harm. “Free” describes an element of an offer; it does not promise a risk-free experience, an income or withdrawable cash.

Recognise the limits of a bonus

Promotional winnings may carry wagering requirements, expiry dates and withdrawal caps. A deposit may be requested for eligibility or account verification under particular terms. An offer should not be used as a reason to deposit money you cannot afford to lose or to continue after you wanted to stop.

Wagering requirements are conditions attached to a promotion, not a spending target that you need to complete. If completing them would mean exceeding your limits, stopping is an option. A lost deposit does not make a later win more likely.

Keep control of time and spending

Set limits before participating and keep gambling separate from money needed for food, bills, housing or debt repayments. Avoid borrowing to gamble or chasing losses. If you find yourself repeatedly changing your limits, hiding activity or gambling to cope with distress, consider taking a break and seeking support.

Independent Australian support

The Australian Government’s gambling support directory lists support options for people affected by gambling, including Gambling Help Online. Use the directory to find service information and contact options for yourself or someone you are concerned about.

For questions about which online gambling services may be offered in Australia, use ACMA’s official resources. The presence of an offer on an information website is not evidence of local authorisation.
